~~~About Japanese Currency ~~~
Japanese currency is designed to facilitate easy use by people with sight impairments. All of the bills and coins are different sizes. For example, the bills descend in size from 10,000 Yen to 1000 Yen. Each bill also has raised bumps in the bottom, left corner.
There is a 10 yen, 100 yen and a 500 yen coin. Coins increase in size and weight with value.
The sen was a former monetary unit, worth 1/100 of a yen. Yen originally referred to a round coin, while sen referred to a copper coin. The plural of yen is yen. Also the 5 yen and 50 yen coin has a hole in the middle of it. (A long time ago, men carried these coins with a hole in the middle of them around their necks tied together with a string)
