Numbers

No changes

     In this chapter, you will learn how to say the numbers in Japanese. The most important part of any language is definitely numbers. Without knowing them, we cannot count, or deal with money or even understand the time or date!!

The Japanese word for numbers is Sūji.

Here are the numbers you will learn in this chapter:

English
Japanese
1 (One) Ichi
2 (Two)
Ni
3 (Three)
San
4 (Four)
Shi
5 (Five)
Go
6 (Six)
Roku
7 (Seven) Nana
8 (Eight)
Hachi
9 (Nine) Kyū
10 (Ten)

You notice will notice that we have selected numbers randomly in the course...We have done this because, if you observe carefully you will see that the Japanese numbers follow a specific pattern. Once you can remember the pattern, Japanese numbers are as easy as they can be!!

We hope you find this chapter interesting!

~~~ Number System ~~~
There are several differences between the way Japanese and other languages deal with numbers. First of all, in Japanese there are two words for four, seven and nine, but they're not interchangeable; you just have to know which one to use in each case. For instance, when counting, you say shi for four, but in phone numbers, you say yon.
There is a ‘Quick Review’ at the end of the section to make your learning easier.
